How to connect to the Sensaria Scotts Valley SonicWALL VPN with DUO Authentication

Overview

In order to access the Sensaria Scotts Valley SonicWALL VPN, you must download and install the SonicWALL Mobile Connect (two words) app from your platform's app store:

A. SonicWALL Mobile Connect (Microsoft Store) (Windows)

B. SonicWALL Mobile Connect (Apple Mac Store) (iMac or Macbook only)

C. SonicWALL Mobile Connect (Apple App Store) (iPhone or iPad only)

D. SonicWALL Mobile Connect (Google Play) (Android)

Additionally you must download the Duo Mobile App to your mobile phone to receive One-Time Passwords for connecting to the VPN. (Duo SMS to your cell phone number is not supported).

You must have a Duo.com account configured and the Duo Mobile App installed on your phone. When you attempt to sign into SonicWALL Mobile Connect VPN, you should receive a push notification to the Duo Mobile App. Click OK in the Duo Mobile App and the login should succeed.

  • If you do not have Duo Mobile App set up, you will receive an "Invalid Username/Password" error message.
  • If you need to setup Duo Mobile App, you can search your email for an invite from Duo from when you set up your @sensaria.com Microsoft365 email account. If you don't have this account, you'll need to be sent an invite to Duo from Matt Mayer or Gary Laub.

GOTCHA: Password resets are not enabled on SonicWALL, so if your password is expired or you are having issues signing in and you have the Duo Mobile app installed and working, please sign into your account at https://rds.baylab.net/RDWeb, which will prompt you to change your password if it is expired, and also allow you to confirm your credentials are working.

Additional Duo on SonicWALL notes:

  • Your username must end with @sensaria.com. In most cases this is already the case
  • Only the Duo Mobile App for iOS & Android is supported for automatically sending out an approval when you attempt to sign in.
  • You must be registered with Duo Mobile to receive the push approval message. Invites to Duo Mobile do not go out automatically for new users in Duo by default. Search your email for an invite to Duo, or reach out to Sensaria IT if you can't find the invite email.

Username: sensaria.com/<your email address>

8. Verify you are connected by confirming that the word “Connected” appears in the top right of the SonicWALL Mobile Connect application window or "Connected" appears under the VPN Profile name in the Windows Settings > Network & Internet > VPN section:

3. If the connection fails, try rebooting your computer. This will fix most issues with Mobile Connect

4. If you get a "corrupted" error when installing Mobile Connect, try SonicWALL NetExtender (link at bottom of this page)

TROUBLESHOOTING:

  • If the connection fails or hangs, reboot your computer. Most issues with Mobile Connect are due to network services getting stuck, and rebooting usually fixes these problems.
  • If rebooting doesn't fix the problem, make sure that the VPN Provider field is set to SonicWALL Mobile Connect in your VPN Profile. If it is not, you'll need to create a new VPN Profile and set the provider to "SonicWALL Mobile Connect".
  • If you get an "invalid username or password" message, you may not be enrolled in Duo or you missed the Duo Mobile App approval dialog. Connect again and open your Duo Mobile App on your phone to make sure you are signed into the Duo Mobile App, and to ensure you see the green OK notification when it comes in.
  • If you get a "password has expired" message, see below for resetting your password via the RDS server.
  • GOTCHA: Password resets are not supported on MFA SonicWALL, so if your password is expired or you are having issues signing in and you have the Duo Mobile app installed and working, please sign into your account at https://rds.baylab.net/RDWeb, which will prompt you to change your password if it is expired, and also allow you to confirm your credentials are working.
  • If you don't have Duo Mobile installed/configured on your phone (say in an emergency your phone was replaced), you can force Duo to send you an SMS passcode to a phone number associated to your account, by entering your password into SonicWALL as password, sms which should send you a SMS code (if you have a phone registered with Duo).
NOTE: SMS is only a work-around for cases where Duo Mobile does not work, and should only be used in an emergency. If you cannot get Duo Mobile to work, please reach out to Sensaria IT before attempting this SMS method
E.G. enter your password as mypassword123,sms
Then you should receive your code as a SMS message instead of via a Duo Mobile App push notification. Once you receive the code, re-enter your password as password, code E.G. if your received a code of 654321 and your password is mypassword123, you'd attempt logging in again (once you've received the SMS code) as mypassword123,654321
NOTE: SMS is only a work-around for cases where Duo Mobile App does not work, and should only be used in an emergency. If you cannot get Duo Mobile to work, please reach out to Sensaria IT before attempting this SMS method
